FIRST WAS THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS FINISHING ON THE 16TH, THEN EXAMS. THEN TODAY WAS THE LAST DAY FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS AND FRIDAY WILL BE THE LAST DAY FOR TEACHERS, THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK, THE LAST DAY FOR THE SUMMER FOR ADMINISTRATORS.SO IT HASN'T QUITE GOTTEN THERE, BUT WE WILL GET THERE.

SO THIS YEAR YOU KNOW, IN LOOKING AT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN WE'RE IN, I BELIEVE THE FINISHING OUT THE SECOND YEAR OF A STRATEGIC PLAN. SO PERSONAL GROWTH AND ACHIEVEMENT BEING ONE OF OUR PILLAR AREAS IN THAT AREA, IN THAT REALM, YOU KNOW, AS WE TALKED ABOUT THROUGH THE BUDGET CYCLE IN PARTICULAR REALLY TRIED TO HIGHLIGHT THE STORY OF THE DISTRICT THIS YEAR AND TO REALLY SHOW THE NARRATIVE, THE VALUE NARRATIVE AROUND WHAT OUR SCHOOLS BRING TO THE COMMUNITY AND ESPECIALLY TO OUR STUDENTS.
SO WE CONTINUE TO SEE NATIONAL DISTINCTIONS, WHETHER IT'S THE AP HONOR ROLL US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT CONTINUING TO HAVE STUDENTS PERFORMING AND EXCELLING AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL IN SCIENCE RESEARCH, WITH EMILY WALCH BEING NAMED TO THE REGENERON STS AS AN STS SCHOLAR.
OUR SPEECH AND DEBATE PROGRAM, FINN MULLON RANKED 11TH IN THE NATION.
WE'VE GOT OUR YEARBOOK AGAIN, WAS RECOGNIZED FOR SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT, OUR SOCK N' BUSKIN STUDENTS AND THE PRODUCTION ITSELF AND THE DIRECTING STAFF CONTINUE TO WIN AWARDS LOCALLY AND REGIONALLY.
SO THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WE TRIED REALLY HARD TO INCREASE OUR SOCIAL MEDIA AWARENESS PRESENCE, AS WELL AS OUR JUST GENERAL AWARENESS OF HOW OUR STUDENTS ARE EXCELLING THROUGH ALL THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS THAT ARE OFFERED TO THEM.
AND THAT'S WHERE WE THIS YEAR ALSO, IN ADDITION TO THAT BROAD LOOK AT PERFORMANCE AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT, WE TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET SOME NEW DATA IN HAND THAT HELPED US TO SEE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, AN ADDITIONAL PICTURE. AND THROUGH THAT, WE WERE ABLE TO DISCOVER THAT NOT ONLY ARE OUR STUDENTS PERFORMING ACADEMICALLY ON STANDARDIZED ASSESSMENTS AT THE 95TH PERCENTILE IN THE

STATE, ARE SPENDING REMAINS AT THE IN THE BOTTOM 44TH PERCENTILE IN THE STATE.SO THAT REALLY WAS A STRONG MESSAGE OF RETURN ON INVESTMENT.
OUR TAXES DEFINITELY ARE HIGH. OUR COSTS ARE HIGH IN THIS PART OF THE STATE, BUT OUR SPENDING COMPARED TO THE REST OF THE STATE, WE'RE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN TO KEEP THAT DOWN WHILE STILL PRODUCING A GREAT PRODUCT FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THEREFORE OUR COMMUNITY.
AND WE CONTINUE TO INVEST IN PROGRAMS LIKE THE SEAL OF CIVIC READINESS.
AND AS YOU SAW AT GRADUATION ON SATURDAY WITH 63 STUDENTS ACHIEVING THAT THIS YEAR.
AS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS YEAR, THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, OUR BIG ROCKS ARE THOSE THINGS PRIORITY AREAS WITHIN THE STRATEGIC PLAN THAT WE KIND OF TRIED TO BRING COHERENCE TO AND ANCHOR ALL OF OUR EFFORTS AROUND, WITH THE THEORY BEING THAT YOU PUT YOUR FOCUS ON THE BIG, MOST IMPORTANT PRIORITIES AND EVERYTHING ALL TO KIND OF TAKE CARE OF ITSELF AROUND IT. SO MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT, THAT'S BEEN ONE OF OUR, PROBABLY OUR BIGGEST FOCUS PAIRED WITH AI.
AND SO ETHICAL AI LEADERSHIP, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR EDUCATORS AS PROFESSIONALS, FOR THEIR OWN PROFESSIONAL USE IN TEACHING STUDENTS? AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR STUDENT USE? SO WE'VE HAD A USER GROUP THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND THAT GROUP HELPED TO PRODUCE.
AND THE STUDENT GUIDELINES WILL BE ROLLED OUT IN THE FALL.
VERY CHALLENGING AND EXCITING. AND WE ALL KNOW THAT THIS AREA OF EDUCATION IS CHANGING VERY RAPIDLY.
SO IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'RE CONTINUING TO KEEP AT THE FOREFRONT. AND OF COURSE, WITH NEW YORK INSPIRES INITIATIVE, WE'RE CONTINUING TO LOOK AT WHAT THAT MEANS FOR EDUCATION.
CLEARLY, NOTHING HAS CHANGED ABOUT THE CURRENT REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION. I THINK THAT'S AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE. THINGS ARE CHANGING IN THE FUTURE, BUT REGENTS EXAMS ARE STILL REQUIRED. THERE ARE STILL BEING GIVEN AND THAT IS FOR NOW.
BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS A HELPFUL POWERPOINT THAT I'LL SHARE WITH YOU TO JUST TO KEEP KEEP THE KNOWLEDGE GROWING ON THAT. AND I DO EXPECT IN THE NEXT YEAR OR TWO THAT YOU'RE GOING TO START TO HEAR MORE COMING OUT OF THE STATE, AND THEN MORE TANGIBLES FOR US AS A DISTRICT TO REALLY BE WRAPPING OUR MINDS AROUND.
BUT I DO THINK WHEN YOU LOOK AT THAT POWERPOINT, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE SO MANY OF THE IDEAS THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THINGS LIKE INTERNSHIPS AND MORE CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND A BROADER SPECTRUM, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE A LOT OF THAT BAKED INTO IT.
SO I THINK WE'RE ALL KIND OF THINKING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BRING THOSE THINGS INTO OUR SCHOOLS IN MORE IN NEW AND DIFFERENT WAYS. THIS YEAR WE'VE SEEN SOME INSTRUCTIONAL INNOVATION AND INNOVATION SHIFTS HERE.
I'M HIGHLIGHTING MOSTLY IN THE STEM AREAS, BUT, YOU KNOW, THERE'S BEEN SHIFTS IN THE REGIONS AS PART OF NEW YORK INSPIRES STARTING TO MOVE MORE AWAY FROM REGENTS EXAMS WHERE WE HAVE THE ABILITY NOW UNDER THE CURRENT REGULATIONS.
SO WE'VE SHIFTED AWAY FROM THE CHEMISTRY REGIONS THIS YEAR.
ALSO, WE'VE SHIFTED TO FULL NEXT GEN SCIENCE STANDARDS FOR ALL IN EIGHTH GRADE.
SO THAT'S SHIFTING AWAY FROM EARTH SCIENCE REGENTS.
AND WE BELIEVE IT'S A RIGOROUS PROGRAM THAT IS STILL DESIGNED TO PREPARE OUR STUDENTS TO THINK AT A VERY HIGH LEVEL AND PREPARE THEM AS THEY MOVE INTO AP AND THEN INTO COLLEGE COURSES. ALSO BEEN IMPLEMENTING THE OPENSIDE CURRICULUM, WHICH IS ALIGNED TO THE NEXT GEN STANDARDS, A PHENOMENON BASED APPROACH WHICH AGAIN HAS BEEN A TRANSITION FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FOR OUR TEACHERS.
SO THAT'S A WORK IN PROGRESS. AND I KNOW THERE WILL BE SOME CURRICULUM WRITING AROUND THAT THIS SUMMER, AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER AREAS. AS YOU SEE HIGHLIGHTED THERE. FINANCIAL LITERACY AND ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY ARE TWO THAT ARE NOW REQUIRED, AND THE STATE HAS GIVEN US A TIMELINE ON THAT AND SOME FLEXIBILITY ABOUT HOW TO IMPLEMENT THAT.
SO THE WORK IS BEING DONE THIS SUMMER TO EMBED THAT IN OUR CURRENT COURSES.
AND ALSO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THE WORK. DOCTOR SHORD IS IS LEADING A LOT OF THE WORK THROUGH A PEF GRANT ON LOCAL HISTORY INITIATIVES TO BE CELEBRATING THROUGHOUT THIS YEAR AS WE CELEBRATE THE, I FORGET WHAT IT'S CALLED.
IT'S NOT THE QUINTESSENTIAL, THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY.
DO EXPECT TO SEE THAT EMBEDDED IN MANY THINGS AS WE COME BACK TO SCHOOL IN THE FALL AND THE AREA BELONGING IN WELLNESS, THAT'S OUR SECOND PRIORITY AREA. OUR WORK THROUGH THIS YEAR HAS FOCUSED VERY STRONGLY ON DEVELOPING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CASEL FRAMEWORK.
THE CASEL FRAMEWORK IS OUR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING FRAMEWORK.

IT IS PART AND PARCEL OF THE CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK BEHIND NEW YORK INSPIRES.AND IT GIVES US A MODEL OF HOW TO THINK ABOUT SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF SELF-AWARENESS, SELF-MANAGEMENT, RELATIONSHIP SKILLS, SOCIAL AWARENESS, AND RESPONSIBLE DECISION MAKING.
THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO HELP THEM TO BE FUNCTIONAL, INDEPENDENT ADULTS NOT JUST IN THE CLASSROOM, BUT THEN CONTRIBUTING TO OUR SCHOOLS, OUR FAMILIES AND OUR COMMUNITIES IN A VERY GROUNDED WAY.
SO THIS YEAR, WE'VE TRAINED ALL OF OUR STAFF IN CASEL, IN THE CASEL FRAMEWORK.
WE HAVE EMBEDDED THROUGH NEW TEACHER ORIENTATION, SOME DIFFERENT SEL TECHNIQUES AND MORNING MEETING, WHICH COMES OUT OF OUR RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM PRACTICE.
WE'VE ASKED OUR BUILDING LEADERS TWO TIMES THIS YEAR DURING OUR LATE START MORNINGS.
SO A TO FOCUS ON THE STAFF'S SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELLNESS.
SO THINKING WITH THAT FIRST AND FOREMOST BECAUSE THE ADULTS HAVE TO DO HAVE TO BE GOOD IN ORDER, YOU KNOW, FOR THE KIDS TO TAKE CARE OF THE CHILDREN. KIND OF THAT ANALOGY.
AND I THINK TRACY'S USED IT MANY TIMES ON THE AIRPLANE, PUT THE MASK ON YOU FIRST AND THEN HELP, YOU KNOW, THE OTHERS. SO THAT WAS GOAL NUMBER ONE.
SO THIS YEAR WAS THE INTRODUCTORY YEAR TO THAT FRAMEWORK.
SOME OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE'RE. AND I'LL ACTUALLY, BEFORE I MOVE OFF OF THAT ONE, I DO WANT TO MENTION THE WORK THAT TRACY'S BEEN DOING WITH THE MTSS SEL COMMITTEE. SORRY ABOUT ALL THE ACRONYMS. BUT THIS YEAR, IN PRIOR YEARS, WE'D SPENT A LOT OF TIME DEVELOPING THE MTSS ACADEMIC SIDE AND WE'RE CONTINUING TO EVOLVE THAT.
ABOUT 15% MAY NEED SOME ADDITIONAL LEVELS OF, OF INTERVENTION.
AND THEN A 5% IS USUALLY NEED MORE INTENSIVE.
SAME THING APPLIES ON THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SIDE. SO WE'RE TRYING TO BUILD IN A FRAMEWORK OF INSTRUCTION AND UNDERSTANDING ON THOSE SKILLS, AND THEN ALSO BUILD OUT THE SYSTEM FOR HOW TO IDENTIFY STUDENTS WHO NEED ADDITIONAL INTERVENTIONS AND THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF INTENSITY OF THAT.
THEY NEED TO WORK HAND IN HAND. SO WE'RE WORKING ON THAT.
IT'S A WORK IN PROGRESS THAT WILL CONTINUE INTO NEXT YEAR. ALSO THIS YEAR THEY HAD A GROUP LOOKING AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT CURRICULA AND ULTIMATELY WENT THROUGH A PROCESS TO EVALUATE SELECTED ONE TO PILOT THIS SPRING. THE PILOT WAS A LITTLE ON THE SHORT SIDE, SO IT WAS A LITTLE INCONCLUSIVE AFTER ONLY A FEW WEEKS.
SO THEY HAVE THE PLAN IS TO CONTINUE TO EXPAND THE PILOT A LITTLE BIT INTO NEXT YEAR TO GET A BETTER SENSE OF THE CURRICULUM AND DECIDE IF IT'S THE RIGHT ONE, MAYBE EXPLORE A COUPLE OTHERS THAT COULD BE A BETTER FIT.
BUT THAT'S OUR GOAL ULTIMATELY IS TO FIND A CURRICULUM SO WE CAN HAVE A STRUCTURED K-12, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL STRAIN, YOU KNOW, STRANDS THROUGH THE DISTRICT, BUILD COMMON LANGUAGE, BUILD COMMON SKILLS THAT ARE GOING TO ALIGN WITH THE NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION AND HELP TO DEVELOP WELL-ROUNDED HUMAN BEINGS AT THE SAME TIME.
SO BIG AMOUNT OF WORK THERE, OF COURSE. YEAH.
AND IT MAY BE TOO SOON IN THE PROCESS SINCE YOU'RE STILL LOOKING AT THE CURRICULUM AND ALL THAT, LET'S SAY WITH YOU IDENTIFY A STUDENT WHO NEEDS, I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S ALSO GOING TO BE CALLED TIER TWO, TIER THREE LEVEL INTERVENTION. DO YOU FORESEE THAT KIND OF INTERVENTION BEING DONE BY LIKE SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS OR, OR DO YOU NOT KNOW YET? I THINK IT WILL DEPEND ON THE NEED.
I THINK THAT'S PART OF WHAT THE TEAM HAS BEEN WORKING TO FLESH OUT SOME INITIAL THOUGHTS ON.
SO THAT'S A POSSIBILITY. BUT TIER TWO COULD ALSO HAPPEN IN SMALL GROUPS.
SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP WITH SOME OF THE SUPPORT STAFF IN TIER THREE, WOULD MOST LIKELY BE WITH A SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST OR A SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER OR EVEN A COUNSELOR. BUT VERY SIMILAR WOULD RUN VERY SIMILAR TO TO ACADEMIC.
AND I THINK I SHARED IN, IN THE MEETING NOTES, YOU COULD SEE HOW WE FRAMED OUT THE TIERS, THE INTERVENTIONS, ENTRY, EXIT, YOU KNOW, WE DID A LOT OF WORK.

THE OTHER PARTNER THAT I THINK IS DEFINITELY WORTH MENTIONING, AND TRACY'S MENTIONED IT A LOT IN HER REPORTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE RECOVS GRANT THROUGH BOCES WAS REALLY CRITICAL THIS YEAR, AND THERE WAS A LOT OF PROFESSIONAL, PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES. I THINK WHAT WE MOST VALUED AND TRACY AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS JUST THE OTHER DAY, THE STRATEGIC THINKING PARTNERSHIP THAT THEY OFFERED TO US WAS REALLY HELPFUL BECAUSE THIS IS COMPLEX, MESSY, MESSY WORK. AND A LOT OF DISTRICTS ARE GRAPPLING WITH IT.

WE HAVE CONTINUED WITH OUR WE ARE PELHAM FIFTH GRADE EDITION, WHICH WAS BRINGING ALL OF OUR FIFTH GRADERS OVER TO HUTCHINSON FOR A MORNING FOR BONDING CONNECTION, WORKING WITH STUDENTS ACROSS OTHER SCHOOLS WITH INTENTIONALITY USING THE RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM FRAMEWORK TO, TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS.
