Dr. Wilson said that this evening the Board would recongize Mr. Joseph S. Solimine by naming the varsity baseball diamond at Glover Field in his honor. Mrs. Kiernan read the Board's resolution into the record:
WHEREAS, the Pelham Board of Education recognizes Joseph S. Solimine for his distinguished leadership as a Pelham Board of Education member and a past Board President and, WHEREAS, Mr. Solimine has previously been presented the Thomas B. Fenlon Award for his distinguished volunteer service to education in Pelham, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Solimine has continued his volunteer service to advance athletics and recreation for Pelham Schools, its students and the children of Pelham through his work on the Pelham Recreation Committee, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Solimine was a driving force in the planning and construction management of Franklin Field along with rebuilding and updating Glover Field in 1998, which is one of the premiere facilities in the area today, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Solimine in his role as Town Supervisor was instrumental in having a new field house at Glover Field built through a grant program he obtained, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Solimine promoted better understanding amongst parents, faculty, the Board and larger community in bringing about support for construction of the new middle school on Ingalls Field, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Solimine also participated in helping the schools and recreation community to arrive at an understanding with respect to a balanced preservation of field space and adequate allocation of faculty parking at the high school, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Solimine continues to be an avid supporter of the Pelham Schools,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Pelham Board of Education, on behalf of the students and Pelham residents, hereby expresses its gratitude to Mr. Solimine for all he has done and through this resolution names the varsity baseball diamond at Glover in his honor, henceforth to be known as Solimine Field.
Mr. Solimine shared a few anecdotes with the Board and audience and presented Mrs. Kiernan with a signed baseball. Mr. Cavanagh thanked Mr. Solimine for all of his contributions to the Pelham Community and Mrs. Kiernan thanked everyone for coming to this special event.
There was a brief break in the meeting to allow much of the audience to exit the meeting.
